As you already know, 2017 is partially about stepping out of my comfort zone. Due to this, I have recently started to attend networking events, when possible.
So far I have attended 3 events. Each event has blessed me with the following:
- Overcoming a particular fear.
- New knowledge.
- Meeting new people.
- Feeling empowered.
An event called Toast 2 Young London was the 1st event that I attended this year. I came across fellow young black men and women doing incredible things in various industries. I even met a wonderful young lady that specialises in making herbal teas (if you know me well, then you know that I’m a herbal/fruit tea addict). Towards the end of the event, the stage was open for the people within the audience to inform other people about what their businesses were about. After erming and urghing, I finally managed to pluck up the courage and inform the audience about what I do, and why I do it.
Before going up on stage, the idea of doing so made me nervous. However, when I was on there I was like:
This really helped to build up my confidence. It also made me know that fear is what will hold me back from fantastic opportunities. If I had allowed fear to keep me seated in the audience, other people in the room would have had no idea what I do. I was also overwhelmed by the amount of people that actually cared about what I said, and approached me after the event to follow my social media handles.
I recently attended the Business show at excel. Although it was much different than my 1st event, I managed to take away a few tips on the do’s and don’t of social media/blogging. If I can at least learn 1 new thing from an event, then it is worth it!
Yesterday, I attended the Breakthrough Success Summit by ED Smith. Absolutely fantastic!
I don’t think I’ll be able to put into words just how much my life will now change (for the better), after attending that event. Various things were discussed such as, how to grow your business, achieve success, conquer your fears, overcoming negative people/thinking, stepping out of your comfort zone etc. It really made me think about myself, and my life. I know thoroughly realise that the only person holding me back from reaching my full potential is I. The only person not allowing myself to enjoy life how I want to is I. It all starts with MY THINKING & I.
So, while I’m still focusing on being the best version of my self, I will continue to attend such events and I encourage you to also do the same. It is awesome for giving you that mental stimulation/push that you need in order to get the life that you deserve.
