We are 3 days into the New Year, and it’s that time of year when people appear to have bags of positive energy. Sometimes, it becomes overwhelming if you don’t feel the same way.
Maybe last year was a traumatic year for you. Maybe you have a fear of venturing into that new business you’ve always dreamt of starting. It could be that you are unsure about starting a new YouTube channel. Are you having anxiety over the fact that you have just quit your job? Whatever the issue is, please make sure that you have someone to confide in. Having a solid support system is key.
I decided to write this post because someone sent me a message a few days ago about my positive energy. Yes, I do have positive energy, and yes, I am currently happy within myself, however, I am human. I’m not always bubbly, or feel like having a laugh. There are times when I am moody, feel sad, or want to have a cry. I am now at a stage within my life where I am in touch with my emotions and so I allow myself to feel and freely allow the emotions to pass. Supressing how you feel is unhealthy and will make you feel worse in the long run.
I want you to understand that if you are feeling a down at the moment, these feelings will soon pass. Don’t stay fixated on what you see other people posting on social media, as people will only post what they want you to see. Don’t envy someone’s life or relationship, because you do not know what goes on behind closed doors. I also urge you not to compare your current circumstances to anyone else’s. You do not know what that person had to endure in order to get to where they are. Furthermore everyone’s journeys are different.
Start incorporating self-care into your life. Self-care means different things to different people, however, to me it’s a way of showing yourself some love by doing things that make you feel good. These things can range from something as simple as making yourself some camomile tea at the end of a long day, booking yourself a spa day, working out, meeting up with some friends, listening to some music to even booking your 1st solo trip.
Always make some time to show yourself some love even when you may feel down. Try to meditate and gain some clarity as to why you currently feel how you do, rather than beating yourself up for not feeling “happy” like everyone else.
It’s ok to not be ok, no matter the time of the year. You’ve got this. I believe in you.
